JNU Fee Hike: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration has more than doubled the fees for students seeking enrollment in the academic year 2020-21. The university has also increased the one-time medical fees from Rs 9 to Rs 1,000. While the fees for MPhil and PhD students were Rs 295 per semester last year, this year it has been increased to Rs 780 per semester. Similarly, the fee for postgraduate and graduate students has been increased from Rs 283 per semester in 2019-20 to Rs 768 per semester in 2020-21. GST will be levied separately on this.
This fee increase comes as the JNU Students' Union is already fighting a case in the Delhi High Court over the increase in hostel fees. JNUSU reached court after months of protests within and outside the university. The Ministry of Human Resource Development was forced to intervene and hold meetings due to protests and students going to court.
JNUSU President Ayeshi Ghosh said, “We will fight again against the fee hike.” The JNU community needs to unite to stop it. ” At the same time, when Dean Pravesh Deepak Gaur and Registrar Pramod Kumar were called to react on this matter, they did not pick up the phone.
